The 2009 Outsourcing Hall of Fame

The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals™ (IAOP™) recently inducted two leaders into its Outsourcing Hall of Fame, the industry’s highest professional recognition for contributions to business and society. The newest inductees into the prestigious Hall of Fame are Yang Berhormat Senator Tan Sri Amirsham A Aziz, former president and CEO of Maybank and previously a Malaysia minister; and Dr. Liu Jiren, chairman and CEO, Neusoft Corporation. The inductees were honored at a gala dinner attended by hundreds of outsourcing professionals during the association’s 2009 Asia-Pacific Outsourcing Summit on May 12, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Established in 2006, The Hall of Fame is unique in its recognition of individuals not only for their contributions to the management practice and industry of outsourcing, but also for their contributions to community-based economic development and socially-directed investments, as well as career development, education and training through outsourcing.

IAOP Chairman Michael Corbett said, “These individuals represent the highest quality of professionals in the outsourcing industry globally. Not only are they leaders in business, they are also leaders in society. These Hall of Fame inductees are at the forefront of advancing practices that are a model for all companies.”

Dr. Liu is the founder of Neusoft and now serves as its chairman and CEO. He also is a professor and vice president at Northeastern University China (NEU), vice chairman of the China Software Industry Association (CSIA), and a standing member of the Chinese Association of Automation (CAA).

Tan Sri Amirsham served as minister in Malaysia’s prime minister's department in charge of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and the Department of Statistics (DOS) from 2008-09. He was president and CEO of Maybank, Malaysia’s largest bank, from 2002 to 2008.

Nominated by peers in the industry, the recipients were selected by the IAOP Advocacy and Outreach committee. Open to outsourcing customers, providers and advisors globally, IAOP will accept online nominations for the award beginning June 1.

The newest inductees into the Hall of Fame can be seen here. The nomination process will reopen on June 1 for nominations to the Outsourcing Hall of Fame inductions taking place at The 2009 European Outsoucing Summit, as well as The 2010 Outsourcing World Summit. Stay tuned for instructions on how to make your submission online at www.outsourcingprofessional.org.

Social Responsibility in Sourcing – The State of CSR in Sourcing

Bill Hefley, Ph.D., associate teaching professor, Carnegie Mellon University, will be speaking at the upcoming  GSC Summit. This year's Summit has the theme "Global Sourcing after the Meltdown: In Search of Sustainability."

The Summit will be held June 3 in New York City, and is sponsored by the Global Sourcing Council. In his talk, Dr. Hefley will address relevant standards such as ISO 26000 and eSCM, and codes such as guidelines from the GSC and IAOP. It is important to understand how not only what these guidelines call for, but also how theyare being implemented in practice today. This is illustrative because it not only provides insight into current sourcing relationships today, but also insight into the changes that could occur as organizations move to meet these guidelines. This study of social responsibility activities in sourcing organizations provides a snapshot of current social responsibility practice in sourcing.

GSC Summit

Bill Hefley is a professional member of IAOP and serves on the Corporate Social Responsibility subcommittee of IAOP’s Advocacy & Outreach Committee. Most recently, he served as an independent judge on the panel for The 2009 Global Outsourcing 100 provider list, as well as the new World’s Best Outsourcing Advisors list. Download the most recent document from Carnegie Mellon’s ITsqc, which details all of their CSR initiatives.
