IAOP Partners with Tent Partnership for Refugees to Mobilize the BPO Sector in Support of Refugees
WINDERMERE, FL, January 28, 2020 — IAOP today announced it has teamed up with the Tent Partnership for Refugees (Tent), a network of more than 140 large companies committed to mobilizing the business community to improve the lives and livelihoods of 30 million refugees forcibly displaced from their home countries. Tent and IAOP are partnering to encourage the BPO sector - both buyers and BPO firms - to support refugees worldwide through impact sourcing.
“We were thrilled to learn about Tent Partnership for Refugees and their impact sourcing initiatives, particularly relating to BPO firms, hiring Venezuelan refugees,” said Debi Hamill, IAOP CEO. “The partnership between Tent and IAOP is a natural fit, given our impact sourcing footprint, and we’re pleased to align to bring awareness and support this important work.”
IAOP has long been involved in impact sourcing, which happens when companies prioritize suppliers that intentionally hire people who otherwise have limited employment opportunities. Impact sourcing has been shown to provide many business benefits for suppliers, including access to new sources of talent, higher levels of employee engagement, and lower attrition rates while offering employees their first step onto a career ladder that leads to economic self-sufficiency through income growth, skills development, and professional advancement.
Yaron Schwartz, Impact Sourcing lead at the Tent Partnership for Refugees, said: “The partnership between Tent and IAOP will be critical to mobilizing the BPO sector in support of refugees. Integrating refugees into a company’s workforce isn’t just good for society - refugees are hard-working, motivated employees who tend to stay longer with their employers. Companies stand a lot to gain by integrating this talented group into their workforce.”
Tent recently presented a session on “Supporting Venezuelan Refugees in Colombia Through Impact Sourcing” at IAOP’s Impact Sourcing conference. View the presentation here.
Tent's corporate members are based all over the world, and span industries from consumer goods and technology, to financial and professional services. The organization believes businesses can most sustainably include refugees by leveraging their core business operations - by engaging refugees as potential employees, entrepreneurs and consumers.
