Leading Organizations Join with IAOP to Launch Global Technology Industry Outsourcing Chapter

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., Sept. 15, 2009 – The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®) today announced the launch of its new Global Technology Industry Chapter for outsourcing professionals focused on the interests of the world’s leading organizations involved in the global technology industry.

Symantec, Sun Microsystems, Inc. and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) are among the world-leading organizations that have joined with IAOP to form the Leadership Team that will drive the direction and strategy of this new chapter. The association is now seeking additional organizations from the around the world to join the chapter’s Executive Advisory Committee (EAC).

“The technology industry has been actively engaged in the field of services outsourcing for well over 30 years. As this industry continues to globalize and rapidly matures, the use of outsourcing as a business strategy and market enabler is more important than ever,” said IAOP Chairman Michael Corbett. “We’re excited to have leaders in the field of advanced technologies join with IAOP to launch the chapter.”

“The purpose of the Global Technology Industry Chapter is to provide a common forum for technology industry customers, providers, advisors and academia to share and learn about the various aspects of the outsourcing and offshoring lifecycle,” said Ken Sharma, chapter chairman and service delivery director, Symantec Corporation.  “The chapter will address the interests and needs of technology industry organizations across all forms of outsourcing, whether information technology, business process or knowledge management.”

“This is a great opportunity to move beyond the domestic boundaries of the U.S. and leverage the power of the technology Industry to look for practices that benefit global companies," said Paul Gaynor, partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. "The technology Industry is one of a few industries that is borderless so creating a forum for industry experts to share as well as go deep in the industry will be beneficial for all companies participating.”

“The intent of this chapter is two-fold: To provide insights and education on methods for successful outsourcing and offshoring, and to identify industry-leading business practices across the outsourcing lifecycle,” said Raj Patel, chapter co-chair and senior outsourcing security manager, Sun Microsystems.

The inaugural meeting of the chapter will be held Oct. 8, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The meeting will take place on-site at the Symantec Campus located at 350 Ellis St, Mountain View, Calif., and also will be available to guests worldwide through the IAOP Webinar network. A networking reception will follow the meeting for local attendees from the Silicon Valley area.

In addition to the formal chapter launch and introduction of the chapter Governance Council and chapter charter, the meeting will include the following key topics:

· A panel discussion involving outsourcing leadership from organizations such as NetApp, Symantec, Sun Microsystems and others on “The Science of Multi-Provider Governance,” moderated by Rajib Arjun, senior manager of PWC.

· A presentation and discussion on “Secured Outsourcing per ISO 27002 - Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) standards,” led by Patel of Sun Microsystems. The presentation will discuss the standards as well as outsourcing tools, technologies and processes; and cover effective management techniques of outsourcing partner security to ensure critical risks are addressed while optimizing cost, consistency and speed of integration.

The IAOP Global Technology Industry chapter is a global topical chapter within IAOP’s portfolio of over 40 chapters worldwide. Geographically based out of the Silicon Valley area, it will involve IAOP membership from around the world.
