Two Outsourcing Leaders Inducted Into IAOP Outsourcing Hall of Fame
Prestigious recognition honors outsourcing contributions to business and society
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, May 12, 2009 – The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) today inducted two leaders into its Outsourcing Hall of Fame, the industry’s highest professional recognition for contributions to business and society.
The newest inductees into the prestigious Hall of Fame are: Yang Berhormat Senator Tan Sri Amirsham A Aziz, former president and CEO of Maybank; and Dr. Liu Jiren, chairman and CEO, Neusoft Corporation.
The inductees were honored at a gala dinner attended by hundreds of outsourcing professionals during the association’s 2009 Asia-Pacific Outsourcing Summit on May 12, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Established in 2006, The Hall of Fame is unique in its recognition of individuals not only for their contributions to the management practice and industry of outsourcing, but also for their contributions to community-based economic development and socially-directed investments, as well as career development, education and training through outsourcing.
IAOP Chairman Michael Corbett said, “These individuals represent the highest quality of professionals in the outsourcing industry globally. Not only are they leaders in business, they are also leaders in society. These Hall of Fame inductees are at the forefront of advancing practices that are a model for all companies.”
The inductees were recognized for these accomplishments:
● Dr. Liu is the founder of Neusoft and now serves as its chairman and CEO. He also is a professor and vice president of Northeastern University China (NEU), vice-chairman of China Software Industry Association (CSIA), and a standing member of Chinese Association of Automation (CAA).
Under his leadership, Neusoft has become a leading IT solutions and services provider in China with more than 15,000 employees, offering a rich portfolio of businesses. Neusoft has maintained an annual growth of 30 percent over the past 18 years, with leading market shares in telecom, electric power, social security, finance, healthcare, transportation, manufacturing and e-government in the Chinese market. Also, with more than 50 customers and partners from Japan, the U.S., Finland, the Netherlands, Germany and other parts of the world, Neusoft is currently the largest offshore software and service outsourcing provider in China.
Due to his outstanding achievements, Liu has been recognized with numerous honors and awards, including the National Award for Excellence in Science & Technology, China Best Business Leader and Asia Innovator of the Year at the 6th CNBC Asia Business Leaders Awards.
“It is really a prestigious honor for me to be inducted into The Outsourcing Hall of Fame,” Liu said. “In the last few decades, emerging countries have played an important role in the global outsourcing community. These countries, like China, took advantage of their human capital to redefine their positions in the global value chain, reshaped the business landscape, raised global competitiveness and contributed a lotto social development. Emerging countries are not only the main destinations for offshore outsourcing, their fast-growing domestic markets will also generate great outsourcing opportunities, which will further prosper the global outsourcing industry and create new waves of economic growth in the post-crisis world.”
● Most recently, Tan Sri Amirsham served as Minister in Malaysia’s Prime Minister's Department in charge of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and the Department of Statistics (DOS) from 2008-09.
Tan Sri Amirsham was president and CEO of Maybank, Malaysia’s largest bank, from 2002 to 2008. He joined Maybank in 1977. During his tenure, Tan Sri Amirsham made a bold and pioneering move to outsource its IT operations to enable the bank to focus on its core competencies of offering enhanced financial products and customer services.
When Tan Sri Amirsham outsourced non-core operations in 2003, IT outsourcing was still relatively new in Southeast Asia and the $342 million 10-year contract was the largest outsourcing deal in the region at the time. It has since delivered tremendous benefits of not only reducing costs, but also enabling the company to compete more effectively globally.
He served on the board of a number of Maybank Group subsidiaries. He also served as chairman and/or held directorships in various leading public and private organizations. These organizations include Malaysian Electronic Payment System (1997) Sdn. Bhd, Cagamas Berhad, Permodalan Usahawan Nasional Bhd, AFC Merchant Bank, AFC Holdings Sdn Bhd, ASEAN Supreme Fund Ltd. and the Asian Pacific Bankers Club.
“This recognition is an honor not just to me and our continuous endeavor in creating value with Maybank, but also a testament to the Malaysian industry, which has always strived to be at the cutting edge of innovation and value creation, as we progress toward creating a knowledge economy,” Tan Sri Amirsham said.
Ranks of Hall Grow
In addition to the newest inductees, IAOP also named three executives to the Hall of Fame at its annual Outsourcing World Summit in February. They are: Lynn Blodgett, president and CEO of Affiliated Computer Services (ACS); Marty Chuck, founder and managing partner, The CXOs LLC; and the late Peter F. Drucker, management consultant and author.
Prior year inductees include Paul Spence, CEO of outsourcing services at Capgemini; Filippo Passerini, global services officer and CIO, Procter & Gamble; Kevin Campbell, group chief executive, outsourcing for Accenture; Ron Kifer, group vice president and CIO, Applied Materials; Dennis McGuire, founder and chairman emeritus, TPI; N.R. Narayana Murthy, founder, chairman of the board and chief mentor, Infosys; Nandan M. Nilekani, co-founder and co-chairman of the board, Infosys; and Ralph J. Szygenda, group vice president and chief information officer, General Motors.
Nominated by peers in the industry, the recipients were selected by the IAOP Advocacy and Outreach committee.
Open to outsourcing customers, providers and advisors globally, IAOP will be accepting online nominations for the award beginning in June. IAOP will induct additional members at the 2009 European Outsourcing Summit in fall 2009, the 2010 Outsourcing World Summit and other future conference events.
