Outsourcing and IT Associations Join Forces to Advance IT Outsourcing  

International Association of Outsourcing Professionals and British Computer Society Partner

POUGHKEEPSIE, N. Y., May 6, 2009 – The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) and the British Computer Society (BCS) today announced their two associations are partnering to collectively advance information technology (IT) outsourcing.

With combined memberships of more than 100,000, the groups will work together to promote professionalism and careers in IT outsourcing through conferences and events, research, publications, certification and other professional development programs.

“This partnership brings together two associations who are leaders in advancing their respective industries to mutually benefit IT outsourcing professionals and those interested in entering the field,” said IAOP Chairman Michael Corbett.   

The UK-based BCS is the leading professional body for those working in IT.With 65,000 members in more than 100 countries, it is the qualifying body for Chartered IT Professionals (CITP). BCS also is an international awarding body for a wide range of qualifications for both users of IT and IT specialists.


BCS chief executive David Clarke said, “Outsourcing is a vital part of today’s IT industry and we need to ensure that those working within it have the opportunity to enjoy a professional recognition. By working with IAOP, we can help cross- promote best practice and key issues affecting these practitioners, raising the standards and the understanding of the work across the business world and IT industry as a whole.”


With more than 100,000 members and affiliates worldwide, IAOP is the global standard-setting organization and advocate for the outsourcing professional. Through its Certified Outsourcing Professional (COP) certification, it is advancing outsourcing as a management practice.


“This alliance will continue to expand IAOP’s expertise in IT outsourcing and enable us to reach more professionals in this industry segment with professional development, certification, education and other programs and services that can benefit them,” said Corbett. “Together, we can help shape the future direction of the industry and promote outsourcing as a management practice with high professional standards that IT professionals increasingly will pursue.”
