The IAOP Life Sciences chapter is dedicated to the advancement, optimization, and standardization of outsourcing practices in various areas of the life sciences industry. The Chapter serves the collective interests of the life sciences companies, clinical and non-clinical research providers, academic institutions, government agencies, and most importantly, the human and animal subjects who are the primary beneficiaries of life science activities.
This Chapter will assists IAOP Corporate and Individual Professional Members in collectively advancing outsourcing as a recognized and highly regarded profession.
This Chapter will support IAOP Corporate and Individual Professional Members in building their networks, educating their organizations and professionals on outsourcing and exploring how the business value from outsourcing in the Life Sciences Industry can be optimized.

Inaugural meeting held on March 23, 2011
The IAOP Life Sciences Chapter, chaired by Johnson & Johnson Group of Consumer Companies, Avasant, Genpact and SPi Global held a webinar on March 23, 2011, at 11:00 AM EST.
Maria Agcaoli, CEO and co-founder of Ascent Pharma Solutions Inc. discussed "IAOP's New Frontier: The Drug Development Industry."
The biopharmaceutical drug development industry invested an estimated $65.3B in R & D in 2009, of which approximately 20%, or $13B, was spent on outsourced clinical services. Due to unprecedented challenges and pressures, the cost of developing new drugs is only expected to rise, and with it, the outsourcing trend. The bottom line: biopharma companies must explore new business and outsourcing models in order to survive. This webinar will provide an overview of the drug development industry, the challenges that underlie biopharma's outsourcing models, and emerging trends. Most importantly, it aims to stimulate thinking about novel outsourcing strategies in the drug development industry, and serves as a foundation for future learning and action-oriented initiatives for IAOP members.
