IAOP Announces Academic Alliance with University of Bamberg

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, Oct. 2, 2013 – The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (lAOP®) today announced the University of Bamberg, in Germany, as its newest Academic Alliance Partner. It will be heavily involved with IAOP’s Germany chapter and will collaborate with IAOP on research related to the outsourcing industry.

The partnership will allow the university to coordinate with IAOP’s Research Committee on various projects and have university leadership participate in IAOP events such as the recent Europe Week and annual Outsourcing World Summit.  In time, the two organizations hope to align the university curriculum so that it’s mapped to the IAOP COP certification standards, further solidifying IAOP as a leading organization in the area of outsourcing governance.

“The newly established partnership between IAOP and the University of Bamberg will serve as a great stimulus for both our research and education,” said Professor Dr. Tim Weitzel, Dean of the Faculty of Information Systems and Applied Computer Sciences, University of Bamberg, Germany. “Our students get trained for IT management jobs in a globalized world, in which sourcing has become an integral part. Cooperating with IAOP will help us to align our curricula with industry needs. Moreover, collaborating in research regarding how to effectively manage outsourcing and nearshoring relationships with IAOP and its members will bear substantial mutual benefits.”

The university has recently established a program on International Information Systems Management, which prepares students for managing the IT function in global organizations and global sourcing relationships. The Department for Information Systems and Services conducts research on outsourcing (ITO and BPO, Nearshoring Arrangements with Eastern Europe, Outsourcing Relationship Management, Cooperative Sourcing etc.) and offers courses on IT Governance and Value Creation, International Outsourcing Management and IT Management.

“We are pleased to collaborate with the University of Bamberg and look forward to them working with our Germany chapter," said IAOP CEO Debi Hamill. "Through academic alliances like this one, IAOP continues to promote and advance the management practice and industry of outsourcing.”
