Outsourcing Association Launches Cloud Computing Chapter
BeyondCore, Microsoft, Accenture and Infosys Lead New Chapter Exploring Emerging Technology’s Impact on the Industry

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., Jan. 18, 2010 – With cloud computing emerging as a technology with potential to revolutionize the outsourcing industry, the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®) has formed a chapter dedicated to exploring its impact.

IAOP’s Cloud Computing Chapter will hold its inaugural meeting on Jan. 26 in New York to talk about the business value as well as risks associated with the rise of cloud computing outsourced solutions.

The new chapter is headed by leading IT companies and advisors, BeyondCore, Microsoft, Accenture and Infosys. IAOP has taken a leadership role in educating outsourcing professionals about the impact of cloud computing.

Cloud computing, or delivering hosted and scalable services over the Internet, is revolutionizing the way that outsourced services are sold, purchased and delivered, resulting in greater flexibility in the delivery of services.

Industry analyst Gartner predicts that business process outsourcing (BPO) services sourced through the cloud will grow from 5 to 25 percent in the next two years. The worldwide market for IT services related to cloud computing and cloud services is estimated to quadruple from $2.4 billion to more than $8 billion by 2013.

The cloud computing meeting will be held in conjunction with IAOP’s New York chapter chaired by Morrison & Foerster LLP, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the offices of Morrison & Foerster LLP at 1290 Avenue of the Americas.

Topics that will be explored include cloud computing’s potential to profoundly impact the way ITO and BPO is sourced and managed; cloud computing’s business value; and weighing the increased risks of non-compliance versus the substantial cost savings available in cloud computing arrangements.

Speakers include Elliott Ichimura, industry market development manager Microsoft; Arijit Sengupta, CEO of BeyondCore; and a panel of
customers, providers and advisors, including representatives from Citigroup, Morrison & Foerster, Accenture and Infosys.

“In the absence of a laser sharp focus on achieving business outcomes, cloud computing runs the risk of becoming yet another overhyped technology revolution that never achieved its full potential. The Cloud Computing Chapter will help IAOP members understand the full potential for leveraging cloud computing to create business value and disseminate the best practices in this space. This chapter addresses a critical need of the outsourcing ecosystem today,” said chapter head Sengupta of BeyondCore.

Cloud computing is a topical chapter in IAOP’s portfolio of more than 40 chapters worldwide. Other specialty topic areas include Contracting Process, Data Security, Engineering, Global Human Capital, Global Technology Industry, Governance,  Healthcare Business Office, Legal and Compliance, Outsourcing Tools & Technology Innovation, and Sales & Marketing.

The event is free and open to users, advisors and providers of outsourcing services who are individual or corporate members of IAOP. Non-members are invited to attend as a guest of IAOP. Click here to be added to the chapter notification list.
