IAOP Forms Legal and Compliance Chapter

Inaugural Meeting to Discuss Dealing with Counterparty Risks in Outsourcing Engagements

CHICAGO, Dec.15, 2009 – The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals® (IAOP®) has formed a new chapter focused on legal and compliance issues in outsourcing that will kick off with a presentation on dealing with counterparty risks.

The inaugural meeting of the Legal and Compliance chapter will be held Dec. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CST, in the offices of Kirkland & Ellis offices at 300 N. LaSalle in Chicago and will also be offered via Webinar. The chapter is open to outsourcing customers, service providers and advisors.

Chapter Co-Chair Gregg Kirchhoefer, Senior Partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP and Chair of its Outsourcing Practice Group, will lead an interactive discussion on “Dealing with Compliance-Related Counterparty Risks in Outsourcing Engagements.”

The meeting will discuss strategies to minimize exposure to counterparty risks at the contracting stage; counterparty risks that may affect specific regulatory requirements, such as data privacy laws, accounting implications, and industry-specific requirements; and processes for customers and service providers to monitor and manage counterparty risks throughout the lifecycle of the engagement.

The new chapter, chaired by Kirkland & Ellis LLP, will provide a forum for professionals to address the important legal, regulatory and compliance issues facing outsourcing customers, providers and advisors globally.

Chapter Co-Chairs Gregg Kirchhoefer, P.C. and David MacDonal, also a Partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, attributed the genesis of the chapter to the evolution of the outsourcing business model.

“While the use of the outsourcing business model has grown, certain aspects of the model now need to evolve in response to challenging economic times and to related legal, regulatory and compliance requirements,” they said.  “We are at a critical juncture for outsourcing with service providers and customers alike facing both economic difficulties and governments around the globe with ever-increasing appetites for regulation.  Stakeholders in outsourcing engagements need to pay special attention to issues of regulation and compliance now more than ever.”

The Legal and Compliance Chapter is a topical chapter in IAOP’s portfolio of more than 40 chapters worldwide. Other specialty topic areas include Cloud Computing, Contracting Process, Data Security, Engineering, Global Human Capital, Global Technology Industry, Governance,  Healthcare Business Office, Legal Outsourcing, Outsourcing Tools & Technology Innovation, and Sales & Marketing.
