Business Leaders Share Outsourcing Expertise at The 2008 European Outsourcing Summit in Spain

Region is an important and growing market for outsourcing

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y., Oct. 14, 2008 – Local knowledge and global sourcing strategies are among the key components that go into making outsourcing deals successfully work in Europe, according to senior executives who will share their expertise at The 2008 European Outsourcing Summit.

Featuring more than 35 speakers from major global companies and the industry’s leading outsourcing practitioners and thought leaders, the Oct. 16-17 event at IESE Business School, University of Navarra in Barcelona, Spain will focus on the theme of “Universal Truths – Regional Realities.”

“As companies grow their client base in Europe, one of the greatest benefits of attending the European Outsourcing Summit is what you’ll learn and bring back to your organization,” said John C. Maher, executive managing director, CB Richard Ellis Global Corporate Services.

Interest is high with more than 150 executives expected to attend the event for its return to
Europe after four years. The Summit is part of the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals’ (IAOP) world-renowned Outsourcing World Summit® conference series that will next travel to the U.S. and Asia in 2009.

CB Richard Ellis’
Andrew Hallissey, senior director global corporate services, will be among panelists speaking on “Real Estate and Facility Services – The Enduring Building Blocks of a Flat World.”

Europe has become an increasingly important and growing marketplace for CB Richard Ellis, a global leader in providing real estate services. Hertz recently selected the company as its global real estate outsourcing services provider for all Hertz-controlled locations in North America and Europe.

“To succeed in outsourcing in Europe, companies need to have a local understanding of the different regulations and customers’ requirements,” said Maher.

The event also will open up discussions on alternative organizational model for outsourcing to achieve greater functional excellence, said Javier Naval, director of GM European Financial Shared Services, General Motors, who will speak as part of an executive panel on “Conflicting, Confusing and Costly – Global Sourcing Means Global Regulations.”

“The European Outsourcing Summit will be valuable to executives who want to take ownership of outsourcing initiatives in their organizations and move them forward,” said Naval. “To navigate the complex global environment, companies need to have established protocols and governance or it will soon become unmanageable.”

HSBC will be attending the
Summit to hear global perspectives and thought leadership for the industry’s future, according to Mark Scott, strategy manager for HSBC Technology and Services Europe, who will be speaking on a panel on “Strategic Considerations for Outsourcing.”

“It may seem easiest to try and solve our challenges locally,” Scott said. “But the only way to effectively overcome the challenges of outsourcing is by coming together and hearing the latest thinking about what might affect it in the future and encountering those best practices that might help you right now. And you can’t do that virtually or by focusing inwardly.”

Scott, who works with the global banking and financial services’ IT organization in Europe, says the company’s continued success “absolutely depends” on the effective partnership between the 2,000 people HSBC has engaged in offshore delivery and their retained IT organization to continue to deliver “quality and seamless services to the business.”

“The value in attending the European Outsourcing Summit is that organizations involved in outsourcing can hear about and then apply new or revised thinking to refine their approaches for the better and thus demonstrate their value back to their businesses,” he said.

China’s impact on the global outsourcing industry also will be explored during a panel on “China: The Emerging Dragon,” led by top Chinese service providers.

“China’s position in the global economy continues to grow, mature and evolve, and so too must companies’ global sourcing strategies,” said Eric Rongley, CEO of Bleum. “By engaging in this open forum, we hope to provide attendees with actionable knowledge that they can use as they consider their global sourcing portfolio.”
