| Background Recent report forecasts indicate that the total market size for business process outsourcing (BPO) in the Asia-Pacific region, excluding Japan, will have had an annual growth rate of 18.7 percent from 2005 to 2009 and will generate more than US $12 billion in revenue by 2009. Keeping in step with the significant growth of the BPO industry, the ASP/IDC Alliance Chapter (AAC), a chapter of the Singapore infocomm Technology Federation (SiTF), will officially be rebranded as the SiTF Best Sourcing Chapter (SiTF-BSC). The rebranding of AAC to BSC will better represent the business process management (BPM) sector, as well as business organizations. Various strategies will be employed to attract large BPO organizations to Singapore, as well as provide opportunities that benefit local enterprises. Ø Singapore is seen as offering value-added BPO activities because of the higher level of skills available, as well as strong English language capabilities. Ø Asia-Pacific’s IDC research manager for BPO services research, Conrad Chang, cites Singapore as an example of where the BPO market is forecast to be worth US $495 million by the end of 2009. (The Business Times, 20 November 2006) The key areas of SiTF-BSC include: Ø Internet data center (IDC) Ø Value-added service providers (VASP) Ø Infocomm services vendors (iSV) Ø Business process management (BPM) Ø IT sourcing Ø Standards & guidelines for the outsourcing Industry Ø Business continuity/disaster recovery The four milestones of SiTF-BSC: Ø Activities for more participation and knowledge sharing: § Conduct programs that educate local enterprises, especially the SME, on the benefits of BPO. § Create a national award to recognize local Industry players who have achieved a notable benchmark in the BPO industry. § Define appropriate minimum service levels that all members must meet.
